Only four days until we meet with @Gannett’s lawyers to bargain our contract. Will our mileage rate still be stuck at the IRS rate in 1999?

Congrats @VMGGuild! I remember when journalists talked about Phoenix New Times paying peanuts. Now they have a higher base pay than The Arizona Republic + guaranteed annual pay raises. @azrepublicguild has been bargaining for ~2 years. Stop dragging this out, @Gannett
Exciting news! After 10 months of bargaining, workers at Phoenix New Times and Miami New Times finally have their first contracts. πŸŽ‰πŸŽŠ (1/?)

Last month, we presented @Gannett with our proposals on hours and overtime, mileage reimbursement, bereavement and paid parental leave. We go back to the negotiating table in seven days. Will Gannett respond?

β€œWhen I did ask and other employees asked (for overtime pay), they’d be told, β€˜You need to learn to manage your time better.’” Our job as journalists often requires more than 40 hours of work each week. But at @Gannett, we aren’t always paid for it. poynter.org/business-work/20…

Poorly run newsrooms sometimes force journalists into accepting wage theft as part of the workplace culture by making it as hard as possible to ask for rightfully owed overtime pay, like how @azcentral treated @ujohnnyg and others in the @azrepublicguild. poynter.org/business-work/20…

I have no words to express just what an amazing friend and colleague Nick was to so many of us. His extraordinary photos skills are only matched by his charisma, energy, and love for his family. Please keep them in your thoughts. I'll really miss you Nick! πŸ’”

Nick & I were hired at The Republic at the same time in 2006. On one of our first days we went out for lunch. After getting our drinks he said w/ a twinkle in his eye "To the life." W/ that a 15 year brotherhood & colleagueship was born. RIP my friend.

The very first day I showed up to intern at the Republic you took me out to shoot. You told me to pick your subject and you picked mine. I will carry your kindness, passion, caring and love with me everyday. Forever my brother, I miss you so much. azcentral.com/story/news/ari…

When I went to Texas to cover the horrific El Paso shooting in 2019, it took a toll on me. Nick was there, and he invited me to his hotel for pizza. He was always kind to everyone around him. And an amazing storyteller. This is heartbreaking. azcentral.com/story/news/ari…

Most of us cannot afford to give up weeks of pay to spend time bonding with our infants. The company should not put new parents in a position to have to make that choice. @Gannett must agree to better Paid Parental Leave in our contract. /
